Background
Mönsterås Bruk is located on the South East coast of Sweden. The company is part of the Södra Cell group, a cooperative owned by some 33,000 forest owners.
The plant produces bleached pulp, and has a capacity to process one large lumber truck-load of timber every 4 minutes.
As the coastline around the plant is an ecologically sensitive area, the owners of the plant take pride in the fact that the plant has as little impact on the environment as possible.

Application Description
The BioTector 970 is a crucial part of the company’s plans to introduce a new six-stage effluent treatment and recovery system, designed to reduce both the level of waste produced by the various processes in the factory and the also the COD loading in the final effluent.

• The BioTector 970 will be used to monitor TOC levels at various stages in the process, thereby allowing for the optimization of the new waste water treatment and recovery plant.
• By taking an unfiltered sample, the BioTector provides the WWT plant with a truly representative measurement of TOC in the waste-water. Instead of filtering out the particulates found in the waste, the BioTector includes these in its sample, and oxidizes them in its reaction chamber.
• Additionally, a cleaning cycle valve is available, which enables the cleaning of sample lines with a suitable cleaning fluid, preventing the build-up of bacterial contamination.

These features, combined with the BioTectors ability to operate for long periods with the minimum of maintenance, ensures that the BioTector provides accurate and reliable data for the control of the WWT plant in Mönsterås Bruk.
