A BioTector TOC Success with Salt Samples
|
Requirement
The wastewater from the Dursban® Plant of the Dow Chemical Company Ltd. (UK), has a high salt content which typically ranges from 1% to 5%. A TOC analyser was required that would work continuously while analysing water with a high salt concentration. After a short trial period, a BioTector 970 was permanently installed and has been in operation since April 1997.
The BioTector Solution
The BioTector 970 pioneers the Advanced Oxidation Method. Hydroxyl radicals are used to oxidize the organic material in the wastewater and any salt residues are flushed from the analyzer at the end of each reaction cycle. Thus, there is no build up of salt crystals in the BioTector reaction chamber. The BioTector readings are not affected by the presence of salts in the samples. Tests have shown that the BioTector can operate even with salt concentration of greater than 20%.
The successful operation of the BioTector has allowed Dow Chemicals to optimise the operation of their final effluent treatment system. Over just a short period, savings, which resulted from this optimisation, has already paid for the installation of the BioTector.
