BioTector TOC Success with Salt Samples

  •  Online time >99% since installation in April 1997, in a high salt application
  •  Proven low running costs with minimal spare parts usage
  •  Proven long calibration intervals

Background

The wastewater from Dow Chemical Company Ltd.’s Dursban® plant (UK) has a high salt content, typically ranging from 1% to 5%. A TOC analyzer was required that would work continuously, while analyzing water with a high salt concentration. After a short trial period, a BioTector 970 was permanently installed and has been in operation since April 1997.

Solution
BioTector 970 pioneers the Advanced Oxidation Method. In which Hydroxyl radicals are used to oxidize the organic material in the wastewater and any salt residues are flushed from the analyzer at the end of each reaction cycle; thus preventing the build up of salt crystals in the BioTector reaction chamber.
BioTector readings are not affected by the presence of salt in the samples. Tests have shown that the BioTector can operate well, even with salt concentration of greater than 20%.
The successful operation of the BioTector 970 has allowed Dow Chemicals to optimize the operation of their final effluent treatment system. Over just a short period, savings accruing from this optimization have already paid for the BioTector installation.
