High Turbidity

A BioTector TOC application with high turbidity effluent
  • Down time < 40 hours / year since installation in August 1998
  • Proven low running costs with minimal spare parts usage
  • Proven long calibration intervals

Requirement

Wastewater from the effluent treatment plant can occasionally have a high turbidity and dark colour, and a TOC analyzer that could operate reliably in that environment was required. After a long trial period, during which all available technologies including UV Persulphate and High Temperature Oxidation were tested, the BioTector 970 was selected as the most reliable option and permanently installed in August 1998.

The BioTector Solution

  • The BioTector 970 takes an unfiltered sample, therefore there are no filters to block – no blocked filters means reduced maintenance and increased online time.
  • The BioTector Advanced Oxidation Method, which uses Hydroxyl Radicals to oxidize the organic material in the waste water, is not affected by turbidity, salt or colour. Tests have shown that completely opaque water presents no problems to the BioTector.

Update

In December 2000, the BioTector was once again tested by the effluent treatment plant engineers for a new application – this time against the latest in IR technology – and once again the BioTector was selected as the best and most reliable TOC analyzer for the application.
